TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began teaching private violin lessons in 2002.  I have been teaching at McCourt’s Music since 2006.  I teach all ages and levels, and have taught students ranging from 3 years old to 72 years young.  I taught at Schafer’s House of Music in Brighton from 2007-2009.  I also have students in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.

Orchestra Director for OHMI Music ~ 2004-2007  I had two beginning and intermediate level groups of approximately 15 students, creating a full string orchestra (violin, viola, cello, bass).  We met once a week during the school year and held concerts.    

Eastern Michigan University Orchestra Graduate Assistant ~ 2008-2010  I work directly with the EMU Orchestra Director and Professor of Music Education, Kevin Miller.  As part of my assistantship, I teach the violin professor’s overflow students and taught the Music Education Lab class for music education majors.

MUSIC EDUCATION

• Eastern Michigan University - Bachelor of Music Performance Degree and coursework for Bachelor of Music Education Degree, 2008.
• Master of Music Performance Degree to be completed in April 2010.
• Interlochen All-State Orchestra 2003, concertmaster 2004; Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp 1999, 2000; multiple Honorary Orchestra workshops; and the Michigan Youth Arts Festival 2004 under DSO conductor Thomas Wilkins.
• Waterford Kettering High School Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, and Contemporary String Ensemble under the direction of Merlyn Beard.  Played as a soloist multiple times and was concertmaster 2003-2004.
• My current teachers are Professor Daniel Foster, founder of the Red Hot Lava Festival in Hawaii, retired concertmaster of the Macomb Symphony, and Baroque performance specialist; Professor Eva Stern, chamber musician and substitute violist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra; and Gabriel Bolkosky, founder of the Phoenix Fest, Klezmer and jazz specialist (recordings available on iTunes), and recently appointed Professor of  Violin at the University of Michigan.

MY STUDENTS

Students are encouraged to participate in recitals, youth and community orchestras, camps, Solo & Ensemble, orchestra workshops, and master classes.  Many of my students have received Division One ratings at District and State S&E.  Some of my advanced students have auditioned for and been accepted to the Detroit Civic Orchestra, Michigan Youth Orchestra, Oakland Youth Orchestra, Michigan Youth Ensembles, and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra.

MATERIALS

Please bring a notebook to lessons.  I recommend the Korg TM-40 Tuner/Metronome.  Music will be determined at the first lesson.  I typically use String Explorer for beginners and the Suzuki series thereafter.  I am happy to include Celtic Fiddle repertoire as well.
